Our Story

The Keystone Guide was born from a simple observation: our region is undergoing a quiet culinary and cultural transformation. We have world-class eateries tucked into historic storefronts, farm-to-table legends fueled by local harvests, and a craft beer scene that rivals any major city.

But the transformation doesn’t stop at the table. To truly understand the Midstate, you have to step onto our quaint main streets—like the brick-lined corridors of downtown Bedford or the Victorian charm of Bellefonte—where 250 years of history meet a new wave of independent boutiques and art galleries.

Beyond the pavement, the landscape opens up into some of the most underrated parks and trails in the Northeast. Whether it’s the rugged, high-elevation vistas at Blue Knob, the family-friendly loops around Shawnee Lake, or the miles of quiet, repurposed rail trails like the H&BT, there is a deep sense of serenity here that you can’t find on a map alone.

Most importantly, our community comes alive in our local events and festivals. From the massive, colorful crowds of the Fall Foliage Festival to intimate ‘Sip Happens’ wine walks and historic reenactments at the Fort, these are the moments where the ‘hidden’ part of our gems finally shines. Unless you live here, these experiences are nearly impossible to find—and I’m here to make sure you don’t miss a single one.
